About Me – Teandra Whitehead

Educator • Advocate • Founder of God’s Plans Inc.

I’m Teandra Whitehead (formerly Teandra James), an educator with 11 years of experience working with students from kindergarten through 12th grade. For the past five years, I’ve served as a public school teacher with Portsmouth Public Schools, committed to closing learning gaps and empowering students to reach their highest potential.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Old Dominion University, a second bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety Management, and have completed graduate-level coursework in Clinical Reproductive Science at Eastern Virginia Medical School. In 2018, my dedication to innovative teaching was recognized when one of my lesson plans was published in Science Scope.

My journey as an educator began during college through the Monarch Teacher Program, where I designed and taught lessons for Norfolk Public Schools. Since then, I’ve worked in preparatory schools, served as a lead math instructor, homeschooled students in grades K–9 during the COVID-19 pandemic, and taught in public school classrooms. These diverse experiences have shaped my teaching philosophy and strengthened my ability to meet the unique needs of every learner.

While teaching science, I discovered that many students struggled not with content knowledge, but with foundational reading skills. Since college, I’ve provided tutoring services—often at discounted rates—to ensure all students, regardless of background, have access to quality support. This passion led me to found God’s Plans Inc., a nonprofit that hires college students as tutors and delivers affordable, high-quality academic support to underserved youth.

Above all, I’m a mother who works to balance professional growth with personal commitment, dedicated to making a lasting difference in the lives of students and their families.
